And There Was One...SON!!!

Well, after several tries to produce a boy I have finally succeeded. My wife had our 4th baby last Thursday June 4th, 2009.

It was a boy and his name is Lincoln Scott Maxfield. He was 7 lbs. 1 oz. and 19.5 in. long with tons of dark flowing hair.

He looks like a cross between me, my father-in-law (The Dude), and Jimmy Fallon. Despite those odds, I think he will turn out just fine and be a great looking kid.
I just want to thank everyone who has sent congratulations. There have been so many that I cannot even attempt to name you individually. We are grateful for your support of our family.

There will be more photos and stories to come from this little guy. Bye now.

I want to thank all of those who have checked out my new Food Storage and Emergency Preparedness Store. There has been some positive feedback and I want to address an issue with this post.

I will be purchasing some samples, but I would like to get a guess of how many I would need. My Story...The Long Version.

Most of you that are going to read this already know me, but some of you might not and that's OK too. I admit I have had lots of different jobs and or ideas over the years that I thought were great and I could really get into, but never really followed through with them for whatever reason. I promise none of them can do for both parties half of what I am about to share with you.

I just posted that my Emergency Preparedness store was open and you are probably caught a little off guard. But here is the story behind that decision...

3 or 4 years ago my friend had an idea to start selling food storage items door to door. You might of heard of his company-Daily Bread. Well, it goes without saying he was very good with this method because he had lots of experience at it. So he asked if I wanted to join him at the very beginning, but I was scared to drop what I was doing and go for it.

Anyway, fast forward a few years and my family is starting to get bigger, my views as a husband and dad change. I started having these feelings like I should talk to him about moving into the online arena because I had been following his biz and I knew I had some pretty good ideas that could help him grow. He was already doing well and had quite a bit going on, so those ideas weren't in his plans and I started a serious search about 6 months back to find something out there that might fit with the ideas in my head.

This is what I found:
Most of the companies that sell food storage items come from UTAH (no surprise to me). Next thing is that a lot the better ones have limited online stores or no affiliate programs (sell their stuff for commissions). The top options were: Daily Bread, Shelf Reliance and Emergency Essentials, but what I needed was the best of all 3 and mesh them together. So I kept on searching and found Better To Be Ready. These guys fit all my criteria and the owners have very similar visions and goals as me in what an Emergency Preparedness store should be.

So I started working with one of the founders and we exchanged ideas about what we both wanted out of this. A harmonious fit!

We want to create CERT style leaders in the communities where they live with our store owners.

We want to offer easy options for short and long term Home Storage, Survival and Outdoor products that are relevant to the customer's needs.

We want an AFFORDABLE monthly program where someone can build up their storage over time and not have to spend thousands of dollars all at once.

We want the convenience of a quality online store so the customers can order and have the items come directly to their home.

These are just a few of the most important things we offer. Those are the items I looked for when deciding to purchase for my own family. You see I am not that different from you. I maybe don't have the storage built up that I need, but now is the time to start. A little at a time will add up over the months. What could be better than to help someone when they are in need. Fit...Prepared...& (Most Important) Family

I have joined the cause of "Stand for the Family" on Facebook. As I was thinking about joining these thoughts ran through my head: Why are there sooooo many problems with divorce? domestic violence? hate crimes? murder? gangs? and the list goes on.

So, not only am I on a crusade to get myself fit, both physically with the P90X program(which I am continuing if you thought I might quit after all the moaning and pain) and spiritually by working on my flaws and trying to improve them. This quest has made me think about being prepared for my family when they might need me because "The Family" is most important when it is all said and done.

I will leave it at that. The Family is the most important thing.

P90X... Bring It!

Some of you may know what P90X is...

It is a fitness program called Power 90 Extreme and it is set up to get you fit in 90 days. Well I heard about it from a friend and since have started the program. I thought I was in decent shape, but I was very very wrong. I am 3 days in and I can barely function like a human being. I am scared to see how I feel after the first week is over.

Be Prepared. We have been told to do so time and again. Government officials continue to warn us of their inability to respond to everyone's needs in an emergency situation, church leaders of many different faiths teach emergency preparedness, and even the Boy Scouts of America have adopted this simple statement as their motto.

Modern conveniences and luxuries may be the reason for the complacency of many of our attitudes towards emergency preparedness. We flip a switch, turn a dial, insert a key, or pull a lever to obtain virtually any necessity of life we desire. Food, water, heat and light are all available with almost no effort. For the most part, many of us live a life of luxury, yet continually search for bigger, better and more convenient items.

These modern conveniences are also accompanied by the age of information. Information from around the world reaches our homes as fast as you can tune a radio, turn on a television, open a newspaper or turn on the computer. This desire for information, the speed and ease at which it can be processed, provide us with the ability to assess potential hazards far better than we could in years past.
